Geocache Description:

This is an underwater cache that requires the use of SCUBA, hence the terrain rating

[NOTE: This site is normally only open on weekends. To enter the park, you must pay a $15 entry fee, show proof of scuba training (certification card), and sign a liability release/assumption of risk agreement. Nothing pertaining to the geocache is visible above the water's surface, and non-divers are not permitted in the quarry area for liability reasons. Please feel free to contact me via email (in my profile) for information on training organizations.]

After checking in, go to the west end of the quarry, and set up your gear near the lighthouse. Enter the water from the steps and follow the old roadbed, Compass heading is approximately 360’. Follow the roadbed, keeping the large boulders on your right-hand side. Look for the hide along the sides of the roadbed. If you get to the Trojan shipwreck, you’ve gone too far.

The hide is a red Nalgene® bottle. It’s got a DAN sticker on the side. The log is a DiveWrite pad & pencil. Some divers leave it full of water, while others put a small burst of air inside to make it float on its tether line. Just be sure not to add too much air, as I’d like to keep it just slightly positively buoyant.

This is a very simple hide, accessible to any open water diver and in full view. In fact, I’ve noticed that many of the instructors at the site have been letting their dive students sign the log as part of their quarry tour. I guess you’d call them semi-muggles of the underwater variety. My idea here is to make my first scuba hide very simple, to whet the divers’ appetites for some more challenging ones in the future and introduce them to geocaching.

Let me know what you think of the location and the hide itself. If people seem to enjoy it, I’ve got permission from the facility owner to place several more, in some more challenging locations.
