Geocache Description:

You will find this cache at the New Beginning of the Dutchess Rail Trail in Hopewell Junction

This cache is at the New Beginning of the Dutchess Rail Trail which is at the end of Turner Street (coordinates below) in Hopewell Junction. This is a new half mile section which will bring you to route 376 where the trail used to start. If you want yo can take a seventeen mile round trip bike ride from this point all the way up to Old Manchester Road in LaGrange and back. This area was once the southern part of the Hopewell Junction Train Yard and was quite active until the Poughkeepsie Rail Bridge Burned in 1974. The last train ran on the Maybrook line (which is this nice rail trail now) from Hopewell to Poughkeepsie in 1982 after ninety years of service. You can find a lot of great info and pictures on this link Cental New England Railway, scroll down, there are many old pictures and lots of info on the railway.......Now back to the cache, this is a log only cache for all intents and purposes and it is a super tube (preform), there is a pencil in the container but it is always a good idea to bring your favorite writing utensil just in case. This is a busy area at times so using stealth and disguising your actions will be a must at certain times.
