Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT at the coordinates listed above. The coordinates listed above are for the parking lot at the Edith Read Sanctuary near Playland. The cache is hidden in that park. To get the coordinates for this ammo box cache, you will need to decipher the following semaphore signal.

The message relayed by the signalman above is a famous nine word message sent by a famous person in connection with a famous event. This cache was placed in honor of the recent bicentennial of that famous event.

After you have received and translated the message, identify the famous person who is credited as the author of the message and find out the date of that person's death. Translate that date into numerical form and add the three numbers together (e.g., July 4, 1776 would be 7 + 4 + 1776 = 1787) and then add that sum to the following number to derive the North coordinate: 4056184.

For the West coordinate, you will need to do a little research of one of the final utterances of that famous person (which, in keeping with the cache's theme, are also famous). In particular, you are looking for a peculiar phrase (often misunderstood) consisting of three words of four syllables. Total up all the letters in the three words (e.g., "Damn puzzle caches" = 16). Double that number. Now multiple it by the number of vowels in the three words. Take that sum and add it to the following number to get the West coordinate: 7339726.

Come prepared to CITO. Please note that there is a seasonal (May through September) parking fee (ranging from $5 to $10 dollars depending on the day) for entering Playland. To avoid the parking fee, take note of Playland's hours of operation and, as the parking booths open an hour before Playland does, get there before they do. Otherwise, pay the fee, grab the cache and then enjoy the day at Playland - it is one of the oldest (since 1928) amusement parks in the United States (designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987) and has the distinction of being America's only government (Westchester County) owned and operated amusement park. But don't let that stop you. Bring the family for a day of fun!
