[EN] In Chirpar is still easy to observe the original three aisles Romanesque basilica built in the 13th Century. Without significant changes the chancel with groin vault and apse, the arcades to the side aisles and the western tower are still preserved until today. The assembly was surrounded in the 15th Century by a polygonal fortification wall with outer bailey and six defence towers, which are not preserved. By 1500 a defence level is built above the western tower, but no military systems are foreseen for the church itself. In 1862 the nave and the aisles are being covered with a flat plastered ceiling and a lower roof is built above the nave. The interior furnishing originates in the 18th Century. The 1778 organ rests on the western masoned gallery. The 1795 altar was built in the workshop of the master Johannes Folbert in Sighisoara.
[RO] Chirpăr (în germană Kirchberg, în traducere „Dealul Bisericii”, în maghiară Kürpöd, Körpöd), este un sat situat în partea de est a judeţului Sibiu, în Podişul Hârtibaciului, atestat din 1332.
Biserica ridicată în secolul al 13-lea a fost o bazilică romanică din piatră cu corul pătrat, absidă semicirculară şi trei nave, cele laterale fiind închise dreptunghiular. Turnul era prevăzut cu o tribună ce se deschidea spre nava centrală. În jurul anului 1500 s-au întreprins lucrări de fortificare a bisericii, în cursul cărora clopotniţa a devenit turn de apărare. Aceasta transformare a presupus zidirea intrărilor, a tribunei de vest şi a ferestrelor, precum şi adăugarea de noi etaje turnului. În 1862 toate navele primesc tavane de stucatura şi sunt modernizare ferestrele. Altarul datează din anul 1795 şi este excutat de I. Folbert din Sighişoara. Din incinta cu şapte bastioane nu s-au păstrat decât ruine de ziduri şi urmele a două bastioane. Turla este cea mai înaltă de pe Valea Hârtibaciului.
