Geocache Description:

Following my first ten hides, all named after birds I have seen, I decided to place one in honour of my bogey bird, the Australasian Bittern. These elusive birds skull around in the reeds, so are hard to see even when they are present, which they’re usually not as there are not that many of them around. The Australasian Bittern is listed as Vulnerable or Endangered across its range in Australia.

I have  personally been out looking for bitterns many times, whenever there is a report of one anywhere nearby, I have been out looking for it, but no luck so far! That is what makes it a “bogey bird”, also known as a nemesis bird - the one species that everyone else keeps seeing that you miss so many times you begin to wonder if it actually exists or if everyone is playing some joke on you.
