Geocache Description:

Short hike on a spur of the AT with a scenic overlook of the northern Shenandoah Valley

Nice hike just off the Appalachian Trail in a popular area due to a nice overlook of the northern Shenandoah Valley.

Free parking at N39 06.927 W077 50.806. Trail Entrance slightly west by bronze plaque. Lots of history in the area, so take a moment to look at the historical markers.

Closer parking at N39 06.616 W077.51.237. Fee at this location of $3.00. Facility is an Appalachian Trail Conference Hostel and Nature Center, so it's for a good cause.

Cache is a nicely stocked 9mm ammo can well hidden within view of the overlook, so use discretion in the hunt. Coordinates were obtained with a Vista with 35 foot accuracy. Pinpoint will be difficult due to rock formations wreaking havoc with signal. This may be a real challenge once leaf cover returns. Hidden by 2 children ages 10 and 11, so terrain challenging but not dangerous. Area is pet friendly.
