Manning, Tx. was a booming sawmill town a hundred years ago. You can stop on the way to the cemetery and read the historical marker which details the history of Manning. What you won’t learn from the sign is that most inhabitants knew the mill was soon to be destroyed by fire since the area had been logged out. Many had already moved on to other mills and logging camps in Polk and Angelina Counties before the fire.
