1870 Art Center is a very unique place in
the heart of Belmont. The Center appears to be an elementary school
but it is an artist colony which is a cultural resource very few
communities have.
The 1870 Art Center is located at 1870 Ralston Avenue in Belmont
at the former Barrett Elementary School. It provides working
studios for professional artists and has an established art
gallery. There are a total of 23 Studios and 26 artists. The works
of the artists are in Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Jewelry,
Fiber Art, and Ceramics.

You will need to be especially vigilant in finding the location
of the art center; go slow or you will miss the small sign on
Ralston Avenue. You can also park on Belburn Drive for access to
the cache site.
This cache was changed from a sign only micro cache to a small
cache which measures 3"x4"x1". Please bring your pen to log your
find. Also, please put the cache back in its hiding place exactly
as you found it.
Although the cache is out of sight, you DO NOT need to
move any objects or vegetation to find this cache.
Several geocachers have voiced a concern about being so close
to the studios. I have received an OK for the
cache from the Art Center Facilities Manager whose studio is
adjacent to the cache area. Please be respectful when you
are in the cache area for you are surrounded by world class
artists.
