Geocache Description:

Cache is located across the street from the former Beacon Mills, once a very large producer of livestock feed. It is now home to a successful marina, as you can probably guess. This spot is the approximate beginning point of the eastend of the Cayuga Bridge, of the early 1800's. This was a great improvement in the western movement of the time. It did away with the need to pass through the dreaded Montezuma swamp. At the time, it was the longest bridge in the western hemisphere. Nature, in the form of our harsh winters did away with the bridge. There is however, still a railroad that crosses the lake in this manner.
