Anyone who has arrived on Drummond Island via the car ferry from De Tour has passed by this location. Until several years ago, a large red "arch" fashioned after two colonial fortress towers greeted those driving off the ferry with a "Welcome to Drummond Island" message.
In 1978, as a bored kid waiting for our turn on the ferry to get back to De Tour, I hid a bottle cap under the edge of one of the towers where it stayed until the towers were removed just several years ago (an early cache?). This micro is located in the Drummond Township "Rest Area", which is a park immediately adjacent to the ferry docks on the north side... the old concrete stairs leading down to the cedar woods and rocky shoreline of the park begin where the old arch stood.
Enjoy the view of the De Tour passage... it is the sole entry/exit into Lake Superior via the Soo Locks for any ship, so many varieties and sizes are frequently seen steaming through. When possible, please upload any ship photos taken from the park beach.
