Geocache Description:

WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND READING THE ENTIRE CACHE PAGE BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS CACHE

This cache is a "reverse" Wherigo located in West Hills County Park.  There is no physical cache at the posted coordinates.  The posted coordinates are for the main parking lot.  Many of the trails in the park are accessible from this lot, although there may be a charge to park here in season.  I've used this lot for the posted coordinates because it a large, commonly used lot, however, there are quite a few other parking areas and trailheads available throughout the park.  This Wherigo can be started from any of the trailheads (or really anywhere at all), so you are not required to park in this lot or to start the Wherigo at these coordinates.  Feel free to explore other entry points.  Some may make your job harder, but others may make your job easier.  Figuring out which is which will be part of the challenge of finding this cache.

The first thing you need to do is download the cartridge for this Wherigo.  The cartridge is available here:

Click here to download Wherigo cartridge

Please note that this is a generic "Play Anywhere" cartridge.  All versions of this Wherigo run on the same cartridge, which was originally developed by -Waldmeister-, who has generously allowed others to use this cartridge for local iterations.  The original cache in this family as placed by -Waldmeister- is GC357G1, and the version we completed, which was the direct inspiration for this placement, is GC7PXC3.

Once you've downloaded the cartridge and have opened it on your Wherigo player, you will be prompted to select your language.  Available languages are English, German, Polish, Spanish, French, Czech, Danish and Dutch.  For English, type "en".  Next, you'll be prompted to choose between meters and yards.  This will be the measurement that tells you how close you are to the cache.  After a brief introduction you'll be asked whether you want to "Play" or "Create".  In order to find this cache, select "Play".  Finally, you'll be prompted to enter in a series of three 6-digit codes.  These codes will tailor the cartridge to this specific cache container.  Please use the following codes to access this cache (and please double check to make sure they've been entered correctly):

248330

488104

079807

Once you've entered these codes, you will be on your way.  From this point, simply follow the instructions on the screen.  The way this works is that your Wherigo "inventory" will include a "Reverse Cache Box".  When you query the Reverse Cache Box, it will respond by telling you how far you are from the cache container (in yards or meters, depending on your selection).  However, it will not tell you which direction you need to go.  You'll have to figure that part out on your own.  You can query the reverse cache box as many times as you'd like, but part of the fun is trying to find the cache with as few queries as possible.

You will not need to leave the trails until you are about 30 feet from the final container. If you find yourself bushwhacking before then, you are doing so unnecessarily. The difficulty rating is based on the challenge of getting yourself within the vicinity of the final container. Once you've got the coordinates, the hide itself is no more than a D1.5. The terrain rating is based on what I believe to be the most likely approach to the cache. Depending on where you start, you may find that your own path to the container is easier or more difficult than what is suggested by the posted terrain rating. Since there are so many different ways to tackle this cache, and since everyone's experience will be different, it is impossible to assign a perfectly accurate terrain rating.

If you query the Reverse Cache Box when you're close enough to the container, you will receive the actual cache coordinates.  Please note that due to technical limitations, the coordinates for the final container were taken with a single reading on a smartphone.  We tried our best to achieve as accurate of a reading as possible, but it may not be as tight as an averaged reading taken with a GPSr.  If you're having any trouble, the provided hint should be explicit enough to find the container with ease.

Once you complete the cartridge, you will be provided with the stats for your attempt, including the number of queries you made.  Feel free to post your stats in your log.  Note also that there is no "completion code" for this Wherigo.

Reverse Wherigo FAQ (created by -Waldmeister-)

Creating your own Reverse Wherigo:

If you want to create your own Reverse Wherigo, you can do so using the passcode you receive at the end of the game. The passcode is unique to you and can't be shared with other cachers. Simply choose "create" rather than "play" when starting the Reverse Wherigo and enter your passcode at that point. You will need to be at the final location for your hide, with a good signal on your device. The cartridge will then give you the exact coordinates (which you'll need when creating the geocache online) and the three six-digit sequences that identify that location in the cartridge. Write these down, hide your container and create your very own Reverse Wherigo! Just be sure to notify -Waldmeister- as a courtesy (no advance permission needed).
