Geocache Description:

This is a cemetery that has been around since the 1800's.  There are many individuals here that have served in the military.

The Indiana Spirit Quest Series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries and historic sites built by Hoosier Pioneeris.&nbsphirty cacher teams, most of which are comprised of Dogs and their Humans

This quest will bring you to Cloverdale Cemetery in Cloverdale township of Putnam County.  It is a large cemetery for a small town.  I saw many persons who served in the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

The Town of Cloverdale is reported to have been laid out in 1839 by Moses and Thomas Nelson.  Official records list January 10, 1849 as the date the town was officially incorporated.  The township is known for its hilly and broken terrai with limestone base soil.  Mill Creek and Doe Creek are the principal streams in the area, with Higgin Creek being th largest tributary to Mill Creek

In the spring of 1823 James Robinson and William Hamilton from Kentucky built the first cabins in Cloverdale Township.  In 1831 Abraham Waters built the first saw mill on Doe Creek.  The first school teacher, Thomas Evans became the first school teacher.  In 1836 the "Clover Dale" post office was established.  William Hamilton became th first justice of the peace.
