While the Lincoln Highway reached all the way to California, the area of America’s most famous gold rush, you can discover a shimmer of gold near this unique street sign commemorating the Lincoln Highway. (Sorry, had to change the color to make it more muggle-resistant). There is a convenient short-term parking spot within 30 feet of the cache on the south side of this impressive ground-level street sign. Bring your own pencil.
The Lincoln Highway was America’s first transcontinental highway stretching from New York to San Francisco. Conceived in 1912 and formally dedicated on October 31, 1913, the Lincoln Highway was America's first national memorial to President Abraham Lincoln, predating the 1922 dedication of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. by 9 years.
