Moto Nagisa Dori Street is a way in Shinagawa-ku which there is along Kyu-Tokaido.
In the old days, Tokaido street faced the area of the Shinagawa-Shuku by the sea.
Tokaido street was the important road which connected Edo and Kyoto .
Hiroshige Andou drew the picture of the old Shinagawa-shuku.
By this picture , We can confirm that there was the sea near Tokaido .
Now, the shoreline moved far by landfill towards the offing.
This street becomes the place of Nagisa whom ripples put it before filling it up in the sea side than Tokaido.
There is this road in the place of the old shoreline.
Former Nagisa Street and the name were acquired in the image of it.

東西をつなぐ重要な街道である東海道は、その昔、品川宿のあたりは海辺に面していました。
安藤広重の東海道５３次の品川宿の絵にあるように、東海道のすぐそばに海があります。
今では海岸線は埋め立てによって、海は沖の方に移動してしまっています。
この通りは、東海道よりも海側で、埋め立てるまえには、さざ波が寄せるなぎさの場所になります。
それをイメージして元なぎさ通りと名前が付けられました。
