Geocache Description:


The Biwako-Sosui canal was constructed to connect Biwako Lake and Kamogawa River to provide water transport as well as tap water, waterpower, irrigation, and fire prevention in the meiji era. There is a sluice gate of Biwako Sosui, and an office of the Sosui-canal of Kyoto city.

疏水は明治期に琵琶湖から京都に引かれた水路である。舟運・発電・上水道・灌漑用水などの目的で作られた。この場所は疎水の取水口になっていて、京都市の疎水事務所も置かれている。
