Geocache Description:

Sneezy has found it! I have a feeling it's been moved slightly from the original spot. I'll check on it soon to see if I can locate it. This box is named for an acronym in aeronautics meaning Knots Indicated Air Speed. It's an easy box and VERY kid friendly.

It's planted at the end of one of the runways of the Manchester Airport. If they are using that runway when you're there, the planes will come in right over your head.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE LETTERBOX STAMP!!! This is a letterbox/Geocache Hybrid. For more information on letterboxing, please see WWW.LETTERBOXING.ORG. It's a clear container with a green airplane on the top.

Airport Fun!

If you have a scanner able to recieve the aeronautical frequencies, take it with you and tune to 119.55. This is the ATIS Frequency. (Automatic Terminal Information Service) This is a continuous recording of information for the pilots. If you hear them say "Landing and Departing Runway Three Five" this is your clue that planes will come directly over your head while landing, and takeoff away from you. A landing over you is more dramatic then a plane taking off over you, which would be specified by the ATIS saying "Landing and Departing Runway One Seven"

There are also two other runways, Rwy 6/24 that cross the one (Rwy 35/17) you're staring at.

If you want to listen to the control tower, the frequency is 121.3, Ground Control is 121.9, and Clearance Delivery is on 135.9. Of course if you have any questions about what you're hearing on these frequencies, or questions about the airport and/or planes in general, just send me an email at A.C.Mechanic@rjsoap.com and I'll be more than happy to answer them.

HAVE FUN!
