Geocache Description:

This historic building is the second oldest in the city of New Orleans. It is the oldest working bar in the country (1772).

The building is named after the infamous pirate Jean Lafitte although he never owned it or the land. The story that has been passed down is that Lafitte used the blacksmith shop as a front for his illegal activities. The building survived the devastating fires that swept New Orleans in 1788 and in 1794.
