Join the LoHud cachers for a day at Blue Mountain Reservation.
Blue Mountain Reservation is a 1,538-acre park in the northwest
section of Westchester County. It was aquired in 1926. It features
miles of trails for mountain biking, strolling and nature study,
and offers challenging hikes to the tops of two large peaks, Mt.
Spitzenberg and Blue Mountain. The Sportsman Center at Blue
Mountain Reservation is a recreation facility offering target
ranges.
The 12-mile Briarcliff-Peekskill Trailway, an unpaved trail for
hiking, is accessible from the Blue Mountain trail system. The park
contains a bathhouse and trail lodge, as well as two historically
significant comfort stations. These comfort stations were built by
the Civilian Conservation Corps and are reminiscent of early 20th
century National Park structures.
Our picnic will begin at noon at Group Picnic area #3- but come
early and stay late for lots of great caching. The caches currently
in the park require some serious hiking, but I'm sure the LoHud
cachers can manage to place a few more before July, including some
- shall we say... "less intense" ones? ( for the kids, of course!
:) )
There have already been offers to volunteer various items and
services. But more help will be needed, as soon as we figure out
what it is we'll need. (Did we mention, this is our first Picnic
event? :))
BriGuyNY is coordinating caches in the park and preparing a
comprehensive list for everyone. If you plan to place one for the
event, please contact him.
Walkin' Ed has volunteered to coordinate food see his list below
for what might be needed.
If you own and can bring a picnic/popup canopy, please contact
Larra-three. The picnic space is open air, and we'd like to have a
few of these in case of inclement weather.
A nominal - but not mandatory - donation of $2.50/cache name is
requested, to help cover the cost of the picnic area.
I'm sure more help will be needed, so, if you have any special
skills that can help us out, contact Larra-Three to let me
know!
Looking forward to seeing everyone in July!
***Please Nnote: Although dogs are allowed at Blue Mountain
Reservation, they are NOT allowed in the picnic areas. Please plan
accordingly!
