Geocache Description:

A Magnetic Keysafe Container with room for a log book and a pencil only.

Hamworthy lies on a peninsula of approx. 3sq kilometres (1.2 miles) with Upton to the North, Poole Harbour to the West and Holes Bay to the East and was the site of an Iron Age settlement before it was taken over by the Romans in the 1st Century and named Moriconium. The Romans made use of the harbour and built a road from Hamworthy to Badbury Rings. The name Hamworthy derives from the Saxon meaning ‘hamlet betwixt two waters’.

Hamworthy is also home to one of the World's First Scout Association Groups, 1st Hamworthy Scout Group, which was founded on 26th October 1908 by 2 of the original Poole Boys Brigade members from Poole who took part in the original 1907 Camp on Brownsea Island.

The chimney is part of a factory site and can be seen for miles and miles in and around the Poole area.  There is NO NEED to enter onto the factory site to retrieve this cache.

The cache is a quick cache and dash and has been placed to bring people to the chimney which is used as a landmark by all types of navigators in all kinds of land, sea and air crafts. Why don't you see how far away you can be from the chimney and still see it in the distance. It is a prominent landmark.

I have tried to research the history of the chimney but so far have been unsuccessful, I will update the description as and when I am able to find out more information. I have written to the factory owners to see if they are able to provide me with more information.

This is a busy residential road and you will need to park in the side road if you have come by car and then walk to the cache.  Be aware that the Factory do operate CCTV and also as this is a busy and residential area, stealth is required in retrieving and replacing the cache.

**********well done to Pooleman on his first ever FTF**********
