Drain Oval is a multi-purpose sporting facility that caters for a number of sports and community events. This site has directly benefited a wide range of local sporting and community groups. The sportsground/cricket oval at the site is utilised by rugby union, rugby league and soccer teams in the winter season and cricket teams in the summer season. Activities undertaken by these teams include general club competition, charity matches and training activities. The facilities within Drain Oval are also used by the general community. The grounds on Dover St are used for passive recreation use such as walking, running and on leash dog walking. Local primary schools also utilise the facility for school sport.
This oval is hidden behind houses on the edge of Cessnock. During Rugby season, the Cessnock Mogrels play their home games here. Obviously, it is best to avoid this one if a game is on or it is a training night.
Houses overlook this area so even if a game is not on, some stealth may be required.
Plenty of parking usually available. Close to cache may be a little soft after heavy rain
