Australian War Memorial
The Australian War Memorial’s purpose is to commemorate the sacrifice of those Australians who have died in war or on operational service and those who have served our nation in times of conflict.
The Memorial consists of three parts: the Commemorative Area (shrine) including the Hall of Memory with the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier, the Memorial's galleries (museum) and Research Centre (records). The Memorial also has an outdoor Sculpture Garden.
The Memorial is currently open daily from 10am until 5pm, except on Christmas Day. Entry is free.
To Log A Find On This Virtual
To log a find on this Virtual you will need to visit during its opening hours as you need to access the Commemorative Area within the courtyard and perhaps the Museum if you choose. You may choose either a question or photo component, or if you are really keen you can do both!
Option 1: Questions
You will need to visit the Hall of Memory which is located at the back of the courtyard under the dome.
Question 1: The entrance has two green gates either side, what animals are on these gates.
Question 2: The four columns inside are made of what materials?
Please send these answers to me, do not include them in your logs.
Option 2: Photo
During your visit to the Commemorative and/or Museum sections of the memorial you will need to do the following:
Take a photo of yourself or something within your photo that identifies that you have visited, use your creativity in this. You do not need to include your face but it would be great if you do!
Please include your photo with your online log.
Please note: that to log a find on this cache you will need to visit during the memorials opening hours to access the required locations, photos from the outdoor sculpture garden do not count towards the logging requirements. Please arrange your visit times accordingly.
