Oliver Queen was lost on an Island following the sinking of his parent's boat. During his exile he learned the skill of archery. He was created as a hero similar to that of Batman (rich playboy with no super powers). He is also patterned after the fictional character of Robin Hood. Green Arrow is often seen as the character with the most social consciousness. This was shown in the famous pair up of the Emerald Archer and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan). The character has traditionally been seen as the eighth member of the Justice League after the original seven; regardless of which incarnation is shown.
