Geocache Description:

When the sun and the moon align with you!

A meet & greet to swap caching stories, discover trackables, consume some snackage ... and view the first total solar eclipse since 1979!  This will be your last chance to see this celestial phenomena until 2045.  For some of us older, er, rather "more senior" cachers this may be the last chance to see a total eclipse EVER!

August 21, 2017

1:19 PM - 4:15pm

Peghorn Park & Nature Trail

2101 Peghorn Way, St Cloud, FL 34769

Even though this is a "total eclipse" for those of us here in central Florida only about 85% of the sun will be blocked by the moon.  Your mother was right when she told you looking at the sun would make you go blind.  Fortunately, we now have nifty "eclipse glasses" which should make our viewing safe.  The eclipse should not be viewed without Eclipse Glasses!  We should have plenty available but, if necessary, we can always share.

Without a doubt, the sun will be the "star" of this show, but the moon is doing all the work.  In tribute, we will have "moonpies" and other snackages on hand!  Since it will be an August afternoon in Florida, we will have plenty of ice cold water on hand!

We will be meeting on the grassy area to the right of the main trailhead building at Peghorn Nature Park & Trail.  A patio with tables & chairs is also available.  In the event the afternoon heat becomes too much or Mother Nature tries to "rain" on our parade with a pop-up shower, we will utilize the Cracker Village Cannery for shelter.  So, yes ... we will be there rain or shine.  Please park in the paved lot at the parking coordinates posted.

The eclipse will begin at 1:19 pm.  The maximum (85%) eclipse will be seen at 2:51 pm and our celestial show will be over at 4:15 pm.  Accordingly, the event will begin at 1:19 pm and end at 4:15 pm. Feel free to come when you can and stay as long as you are able.  There are a number of geocaches hidden nearby if you want to add them to your plan for the day.

Every quality event has to have a raffle ... and so, ours will too! Drawing will be held at 4:00 pm.
