Geocache Description:

Located 3 miles west of Blanco on farm road 1623, there is an amazing set of Pleurocoelus footprints in the riverbed. At this spot, the river can be about knee high. Often it is dry or with sparse patches of water. There is a well-established path that can be followed the short distance to the tracks on the side of the river nearest the main road and it is on public property.

To obtain credit for this cache, e-mail us and tell us which direction (North, South, East or West) the dinosaur was headed. You will need to bring a compass (many gps's have this feature) to make this determination. Please do not post your answer in your log.

115 million years ago, these giant dinosaurs roamed this area. Scientists believe that they were about as big as a school bus; weighing 20-45 tons and anywhere from 30-60 feet tall. They are the largest land animals ever discovered. They were herbivores and were classified as Quadrupeds because they had four feet.

These fossilized tracks are found in the Glen Rose formation. The limestone bottom is white in color and a perfect medium for ichnites (fossil footprints). The Pleurocoelus was named the Texas State Dinosaur by the Texas legislature in 1997. This is a wonderful spot for the entire family to visit.
