Candy Cane Lane Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

jvechinski: The Grinch was disappointed that geocachers were still going after this cache, and despite his best efforts, apparently having fun doing so. So he grabbed the final cache container and took it with him to the top of Mount Crumpit, where it sits amongst the toys and gifts he stole from Whoville...

Seriously folks, thanks to everyone who hunted this one. I had fun reading about your adventures, and I hope you enjoyed finding the cache. Assuming I still live in the Candy Cane Lane area, watch for a similar cache in November 2006...

Geocache Description:

A multipart cache designed to disappoint and wear down Wisconsin geocachers

ALERT: This cache has been stolen by The Grinch!

The Grinch wants Wisconsin geocachers to have a miserable time hunting this cache. Cachers who already found this cache cannot find it again and log it... they should just be happy that they found it when it was filled with Christmas spirit.

The area around the four waypoints is no longer magical. In fact it is quite ordinary and boring, and The Grinch carefully selected the waypoint locations so that finders will have a really horrible time. Fortunately, you can now park on any of the streets in the area and all waypoints are available during the day, so finding the first four waypoints should be a little easier.

Listed coordinates are the coordinates for waypoint A, one of four waypoints you must visit before going after the final. If you're smart, you'll enter in the coordinates of the other 3 waypoints before you head out. You do not have to trespass to obtain the information you need at the waypoints. It is all visible from the street or sidewalk.

Here is the information on the four waypoints you'll need to visit before going after the final:

Waypoint A - N42 59.547 W88 01.941

Here you will see a boring gray pole with a four digit number.

A is the last digit in the four digit number.

Waypoint B - N42 59.531 W88 01.866

Here you will see a brass animal nailed to a gate/fence. What is it?

If a pig, B = 2
If a fish, B = 4
If an eagle, B = 6
If a badger, B = 3.14159

Waypoint C - N42 59.367 W88 01.797

Here you will see another boring gray pole with a four digit number.

C is the last digit in the four digit number divided by 2.

Waypoint D - N42 59.489 W88 01.722

In the garden in front of this house, there is a carved wooden animal with a red bandana around its neck. (Amazingly there are other animals with bandanas here; you want the animal sporting the red one.) What type of animal is it?

If a dog, D = 2
If a bear, D = 4
If a deer, D = 6
If a raccoon, D = 8

OK, you've found them all! Now just do a little math to get the coordinates of the final cache container. The final is within 1 mile of the other waypoints. The final cache container is a green tin box about the size of a lunchbox (may not be 100% waterproof, so seal those ziploc bags tight). There is room for small trade items or travel bugs. If hunting the final after dark (which I don't recommend), bring a flashlight and read the hint because it is going to be difficult to spot it.

Final latitude: N42 58.532 + .AB0 degrees = ?
Final longitude: W88 02.007 + .CD0 degrees = ?

Example:
If A = 2 and B = 4, latitude is N42 58.532 + .240 degrees = N42 58.772
If C = 4 and D = 6, longitude is W88 02.007 + .460 degrees = W88 02.467
