Giant Rock Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Kosh Naranek: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the immediate future, just contact one of your local reviewers and assuming it meets the current guidelines, it can be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

Lost my notepad! Things are not what they seem to be here.

During the 1950's thousands of "contactees" gathered at Giant Rock to tell their stories of being abducted by UFOs. You can occasionally see film footage of Giant Rock and the surrounding area, as well as some of the contactees in old film footage and documentaries about UFOs. You may be able to dig up quite a bit of the UFO mythology of the area on the internet.

Here's a couple to get you started:

Well, I don't know if any of the contactees actually had been abducted, but Giant Rock has been used as a gathering place ever since then for a wide range of uses -- mostly raves these days. The trash & grafity are really bad.

The Twentynine Palms Marine's practice bomb runs and other stuff just to the east of Giant Rock. Sometimes you can see military jets practicing dog fights in the area. The airspace just east of Giant Rock is a restricted area so they have free range to fly about.

The south side of the rock split apart on February 23, 2000.

I parked under the shadow of the Giant Rock on it's north side and that's where your journey to the actual cache will begin.

Oddly, I don't seem to remember about an hour of my visit and my notepad seems to have come up missing.

When I got home, I developed a roll of film I shot there and maybe that will provide some clues as to the whereabouts of the actual cache site.

Quade

P.S. -- ALWAYS be on the lookout for rattlers and other nasties under rocks. ONLY turn them over with a stick.

P.P.S. Again recently the cache itself seems to have been abducted. Now with the gathering of storm clouds over the desert, the cache is once again in place with a new log. It was anchored in place with a small rock which hides the cache. Great care should be taken to replace it in the same manner.

P.P.P.S. If you have searched your hardest and still not found the cache and you are sure you are in the right location, take a reading on your coordinates and email them to me privately. DO NOT POST ACTUAL COORDINATES. Desert Varnish
