This is probably my most remote cache so far. Cache is in Palen pass between the Palen and Granite mountains. These are spectacular desert mountain ranges. Access is from highway 177 north of Desert Center. Four-wheel-drive is required due to soft sand and a couple of rocky spots. Otherwise is a good desert road. Cache itself is up a steep slope just north of the Palen Pass road and just east of the summit. It's not a long walk to the cache but it is steep. Please be careful. Since i placed this cache on New Year's Day i thought it appropriate to include the Far Side desk calendar for 2002. This also had some influence on my naming of the cache. ;-) The cookie tin also contains an LED flasher, a tin of cherry candies, a gecko bean bag, some other odds and ends, and a pickle. Logbook and pencil too.
The surrounding area is wilderness so please respect the land. An alternate route it to continue on eastward toward Midland and Blythe. The cache can also be approached from this side. If you enjoy the open desert as much as i do you will love this area.
