Ali je prav Virnikov Grintovec ali Grintavec je stvar akademske razprave. Domačini bodo zanesljivo to jezikovno juho zabelili s krepkim Grintouc, da pa se ga loči od višjega brata na drugi strani doline, mu je domači kmet, ki je pasel na planini pod njim, posodil svoje ime. Zatrdim pa lahko, da nas bo ime morebiti zabavalo po poti navzgor, ko bomo stopali skozi smrekove gozdove. Ko bomo po strmem in nekoliko izpostavljenem vršnem grebenu prišli do piramide, bomo raje odprtih ust gledali naokoli, vse od Kort na drugi strani meje do domačih obronkov. In gora, hribov, kucljev vse naokoli. Piramide? Seveda. Dilemo ali je višji ta vršiček ali slabih sto metrov oddaljeni brat dvojček v istem grebenu so z njo nagnili v prid prvemu. Da le ne bi bilo treba hoditi predolgo.

In kako do tega prvovrstnega razgledišča? Poti so vsaj tri. Katero bomo izbrali je povsem naša stvar. Ena jo do gor maha iz sosednjih Kort (Trögern). Druga po gozdnih cestah in z malo občutka za orientacijo iz mejnega prehoda (Jezerski vrh). In tretja, morebiti še najhitrejša izbira iz Jezerskega. Pot je markirana in lepo sledljiva, le malo po začetku pri župnišču nad farno cerkvijo svetega Ožbolta ob gozdnih delih markacij zmanjka. Držimo se levo in pri Žmitku znova ulovimo markacije in stezo, ki se vzpne v gozd. Tudi posebej zahtevna ni, seveda do vršnega grebena, kjer pobočja pod stezo postanejo strma, mestoma prepadna. Tam je potreben trden korak, na otroke je treba posebej paziti, v moči ali celo snegu, pa se seveda zahtevnost z nevarnostjo zdrsa močno poveča.

It is a matter of academic debate whether the correct name of the mountain is Virnikov Grintovec or Virnikov Grintavec. The locals will certainly spice this language soup with a strong Grintouc. Furthermore, to distinguish it from the higher brother mountain on the other end of the valley, the local farmer who was grazing his cattle on the pastures below its top lent his name to the mountain. What I can certainly say is that these name games can entertain you while you'll be climbing up the spruce-tree forest. But when you pass the steep and a bit exposed summit ridge and reach the pyramid, you will look around with your mouth wide open: from Korte (Trögern) across the border, to the closest hillsides. There are mountains and peaks, hills, hillocks and hummocks all around you. And the pyramid? Of course. There was a dilemma whether this top is higher than another one, which is a bit less than a hundred metres away along the same ridge. So the pyramid was built to make this top higher. And you don't have to walk further.

And how can we reach this first-class viewpoint? There are at least three trails. It is up to you which of them you choose. One climbs up from the neighbouring Korte (Trögern). Another one follows the forest roads from the border crossing of Jezerski vrh - you'll need to use your orientation skills, too. The third one might be the fastest option, directly from Jezersko. The trail is marked with blazes, except for a section soon after the beginning, just after passing the priest's house and the church of St. Oswald. Keep to the left and search for the blazes and the trail at the Žmitek farm again. The climb is not very demanding until the summit ridge. Up there the slopes under the trail become steep and occasionally precipitous. You'll need to have a firm step and pay special attention to the safety of the kids. Of course, if the terrain is wet or snowy, it becomes slippery and there is a much higher risk of sliding.
