I could think of no better gift to give my
fellow cachers than my favorite style of cache. Have Fun and Merry
Christmas!!!
This cache is the 13th in the hidden treasure series.
Hopefully I will find more to share.
I would have loved to make this two separate caches, but the 1/2
mile distance rule in the National Forest made that
impossible.
This cache will take you to two separate waterfalls on Montgomery
Creek. Nice wooded walk amongst large hemlock and pines with only
one steep hill climb. My kids made the walk with no trouble. You
will be on a well defined trail most of the time. Round trip
distance is approximately 1.5 miles.
Please make note of the additional waypoints. These will make your
experience much easier. You must cross through the Ranger camp at
these coordinates (N34 37.551 W084 06.182) at SSG B Charles Rd.
This is a forest service road and you are allowed on it. This road
leads right by the Ranger gym. Stay on the road to where it turns
to dirt and ford the creek. The creek crossing was no problem for
my 2WD SUV, but cars probably don't have enough clearance. If you
can't ford the creek with your vehicle it is only about a .25 mile
walk to the trailhead. Follow the dirt road for a short distance to
the parking/trailhead coordinates (N34 37.473 W084 06.503).
From here make your way on the trail to the following coordinates
(N34 37.360 W084 06.653). At these coordinates you should hear the
first waterfall. Make your way down the hill to the posted
coordinates which are for stage one. There are multiple waterfalls
along the creek within a short walk from stage one. Make your way
back up the hill to the well defined trail and continue toward the
second waterfall and final location.
Stage one is a small container that contains the coordinates for
the final location. The final is an ammo can with mostly kid
related trade items.
WORD OF CAUTION!! - Please use common sense and don't put yourself
in any unnecessary danger. Unfortunately too many people get hurt
each year at waterfalls similar to this one because they had to get
a little closer.
Small note: As required by the USFS for caches hidden in the
Chattahoochee National Forest the cache is prominantly labeled as a
geocache and the label includes the GC391VE waypoint number and the
owner's e-mail address. Enjoy!
Congrats and Merry Christmas FTF - Ent of
Spades!!!
