Cachin' The Line Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

BJ&Snurt101: Well, the county never replaced the historic sign at gz - the basis for this multi-stage Line gem. Hidden in 2003, one of our earliest, we are grateful for all that came for a tour of the Mason-Dixon line.

Geocache Description:

This three-stage offset cache is a drive in the park...uh...a drive in the country and the park. The first two stages are nearly cache and dash. The ease of locating and scoring these two objects, however, is inversely proportional to their historical significance.

These roadside objects resulted ultimately from a little dispute over property, sort of like the Hatfields and McCoys, in that the issue was contested for a very long time. This dispute, however, did not derive from a stolen pig, nor was it entered upon with fisticuffs, gunfire and the defense of manly honor. The short version of the account of the dispute and resulting resolution can be found at the coordinates given above.

To claim stage one, provide answers via e-mail to the following:
Who were the contestants?
What is this small object known as?
How does astronomy figure in the story?

The Latitude for the second stage is the same as the first. Longitude is W077:39_ _ _. To get the last three digits, piece together the three ‘number’ words (i.e. ‘eight’ ‘four’ ‘six’ would be 846) in the text of the roadside historical placard, in the order they occur in the text.

To claim stage two, provide answers via e-mail to the following:
The land upon which this object sits is used for what?
How many letters of the alphabet are found on this object?

The third stage is a small regular cache whose coordinates will be found in very close proximity to the second object.

The cache is a weather-resistant vessel that is colored to blend with its resting place. Muggle activity may be high is this park at times, but cache is a bit removed from the grassy areas. A very short walk through the rough is required.
