Geocache Description:

Wilmore Dam is a 195 acre water supply reservoir acquired for public use by the Cambria Somerset Authority(CSA). It sits on 600 acres and was constructed by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1908. It holds up to 1 billion gallons of water with a watershed area of 11 square miles. The lake provides fisherman with a good opportunity to catch largemouth bass, crappies, yellow perch and bluegills as well as bullheads, channel catfish, suckers and shiners. The North Branch of the Little Conemaugh flows out of the dam and contains brown and rainbow trout as well as some brook trout. Bring your fishing rod and spend the day. There are bathroom facilities, a picnic area and designated areas for fires.

This is a good location to see bald eagles and osprey. Over 40 varieties of spring flowers are present early in the year.

The lake is a water reservoir and certain rules apply.
Swimming, bathing and diving are not allowed. DO NOT TRESSPASS NEAR THE BREAST OF THE DAM OR SPILLWAY! Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash. All pet waste must be picked up and removed from the site.

The entrance to the lake area is at N 40 24.166 W078 42.348. When you get to the area keep to the left. Do not go towards the breast area. There is a parking area just below the brick house on the left.

This is a 2-part cache. You are looking for 50 cal. ammo cans. The coordinates for cache # 2 are in the lid of cache # 1. The caches are accessible from a fairly level path that can be hiked or biked, however some climbing is necessary to get to the caches. Please be careful of your children at site #1. Replace any decoys you might find. The first part of this cache is a .35 mile trip with the cache at N 40 24.866 W078 41.581. Those of you used to having your GPS lead you right to the cache will have more of a challenge at cache #1 due to the trees, rocks and any cloud cover. We used 2 different GPS units on 2 different days to try to get the coordinates as close as possible. You can stop here but if "willing to do more" proceed 1.25 miles to cache #2. Completing both caches will be a little over 3 miles round-trip.
