Wackelsteine sind beeindruckende
Felsformationen, die man immer wieder im Mühlviertel antreffen
kann. Sie entstehen im Laufe von Millionen von Jahren durch
Verwitterung, bevorzugt aus granitischem Gestein. Durch äußere
Einflüsse wie Niederschlag oder Wind werden, in einem lange
dauernden Prozess, Ritzen und Lücken zwischen Gesteinsbrocken immer
mehr erweitert. Es entstehen einzelne Blöcke, die immer weiter
zerfallen und abgetragen werden. Durch das Zusammenwerken von
chemischen und physikalischen Kräften bei der Verwitterung erhalten
die Brocken ihre typische, abgerundete Form - man spricht dabei von
der sogenannten Wollsackverwitterung. In seltenen Fällen bleiben
diese Brocken dann in exponierter Lage stehen, wie ihr es bei
diesem Stein, dem Schwammerling / Schwammerlstein vor Ort bestaunen
könnt!
Oft haben diese Steine Sagen und Legenden
hervorgebracht, mit denen man sich deren Entstehung zu erklären
versuchte. Nicht selten hatten dabei Riesen oder der Teufel ihre
Hand im Spiel.
Um diesen Earthcache zu loggen, erfülle bitte
folgende Aufgaben:
- Schätze die Dimensionen des Steins, sowie die Fläche, mit der
der Stein auf dem Untergrund aufliegt
- bei der Schautafel (siehe Additional Waypoints) findest du eine
Grafik im Zusammenhang mit Verwitterung. Zeichne nach dem Vorbild
auf der Tafel deine eigene, schemenhafte Grafik dieses Prozesses,
und lade das Bild zu deinem Log hoch. Bitte unterschreibe das Bild
mit deinem Nickname, damit ich weiss, dass es auch wirklich von dir
ist!
- optional kannst du auch ein Foto von dir vor Ort machen,
darüber würde ich mich sehr freuen. Verpflichtend ist es allerdings
nicht.
Sende mir die Antworten per Mail! Du brauchst
meine Antwort vor dem Loggen nicht abzuwarten, ich melde mich,
sollte es Probleme geben! Logs ohne Antworten werden allerdings

Bitte beachte, dass es vor Ort keine Parkplätze
gibt! Lass dein Auto im Ort Rechberg rund um die angegebenen
Parkkoordinaten stehen, und gehe die letzten Meter zu Fuß - es ist
nicht weit!

Rocking stones are large rocks that can be found
throughout the "Mühlviertel". They are the result of millions of
years of weathering, and they emerge primarily from granite. In a
long lasting process, external influences like precipitation or
wind widen the cleavages between the layers of rocks. In this way,
single blocks of rock are created. As a result of continuous
weathering, the combination of physical and chemical forces create
the typical rounded shape of these rocks. This process is called
"Wollsackverwitterung". There seems to be no English term for this
process, but it is referring to the fact that the stones look like
large sacks of wool. In very remote cases, these rocks end up in
exposed locations. This Earthcache takes you to a famous rocking
stone, the so called "Schwammerling" or also called
"Schwammerlstein". (rough translation: "mushroom rock")
Hundrets of years ago, people could not explain
how these rocks were created. This is the reason why there are so
many stories about rocking stones involving giants or the
devil.
To log this Earthcache as found, please complete
the following tasks:
- estimate the dimensions of the rock. Also, please estimate the
size of the area that the stone is resting on.
- At the info board (see Additional Wapoints) you will find 2
schematics that are in connection with weathering. Please draw your
own schematics, based on the two pictures, and upload them with
your log. Please sign your picture with your nickname, so it can be
identified as yours!
- as an optional task, I appreciate any pictures from the
location!
