Geocache Description:

The Albany Thicket

Thicket, according to a dictionary definition, is a tangle or dense growth of shrubs or trees. The Albany Thicket is the Eastern Cape Biome supporting the highest number of plant species that occur in the region. The vegetation of the Albany Thicket Biome is described in general as a dense, woody, semi-succulent and thorny vegetation type of an average height of 2–3 m; relatively impenetrable in an undisturbed condition. This cache is placed is placed in area which represents one of numerous vegetation units within the Albany Thicket, namely the Gamtoos thicket. Within a few feet, you can find many typical examples of this vegetation including: the Uitenhage aloe (Aloe africanai), bitter aloe (Aloe ferox), Cussonia gamtoosensis, Milkweed , Spekboom (Portulacaria afra) , Needlebush , Sour fig and Plumbago to name but a few..
