Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the series of caches along the Rosstown Rail train that extends from here to Oakleigh railway station. There is this multi-cache. Most of the traditional caches have been archived. Those that are left are -

  • Trainspotting cache.
  • Junction II .

The posted coordinates bring you to an information sign supplied by the local council detailing some history of the Rosstown Railway line - from details on the sign you will be able to determine the location of the cache

Destined never to be used but always a dream. William Murray Ross built the never to be used Rosstown Railway first in 1883 and then had to be redone in 1887-8 due to the shoddiness of the original build. It was to carry produce from his other failed venture in the area the sugar beet mill.( the Northern Queensland Sugarcane industry would have probably ended its time anyway. ) There was a lot of concern from the market gardeners in the area that his mill would use all the water supply available in the area. The railway fell into disrepair quickly as did the sugar beet mill. Carnegie was known as Rosstown until the early 1900's but its namesake hotel still stands on Dandenong Road in Carnegie North. The railway would have been useful in today's age as it would have linked the Dandenong Line /go under the Frankston Line and eventually meet Sandringham Line at Elsternwick.

What you need to find on the sign are -

  • 1. Glen Eira Council phone number as listed = 9524 abcd.
  • 2. the date of the Argus Newspaper listing expressed as dd /mm /yyyy = > ef /gh / ijkl.

The cache is located at -

S 37 53. d (a + h)( k - e) E 145 00. f (c + i ) (b + d + e) South total = 34 East total = 23

This is a third replacement cache but in the new area as some public works happened that are now finished. You are looking for a small plastic Tupperware with a pencil and log, room for small swaps - It's a muggle pathway - please sign the log and take a ticket for the train ride .

Replace the cache as you found it - can be carefully placed back hidden from view. Check before you leave the area - FTF goes to leafotwind for the original cache location.
