Cooper's History
CooperPixley (1763-1855) was born in Great Barrington, Berkshire
County, Massachusetts on July 16, 1763. Pixley enlisted in Captain
Josiah Troop's Company of Colonel Marinus Willett's Regiment of New
York Militia, and served from 1778 to 1781. Cooper was present at
the battle of Monmouth and participated in General John Sullivan's
expedition against the Iroquois in the Finger Lakes area.
Following the Revolution, Pixley lived in New York and Canada. He
moved to Portage, Columbia County, Wisconsin in June 1849. Pixley
died at the age of 92 in 1855.
The Puzzle
Find the day Cooper died, multiply by 2, then subtract from
NORTH
Take the day he died, divide by 4, subtract from WEST
FINAL
Take the years Cooper lived (from the tombstone) add 56, then add
to NORTH
Count the total number of benches near both graves, multiply by
136, subtract from WEST.
A Bicentenial $2.00 bill goes to the FTF.
The Mystery
If you did not notice, the years Cooper lived are quoted incorrect
on his headstone. That would make him 9 years old when he enlisted.
Somehow the stone carver used the date Cooper moved to Portage as
the date he died. I can just imagine the controversy of that
mistake.
REQUEST
I ask that when you bring a flag with you place it by Cooper's
grave. Pause to Remember and Honor the men who fought to gain our
liberty. Thank You
