Geocache Description:

A nineteenth-century church turned art sanctuary...

History of the place began in 1894, when Ms. Sophia Blackmore, missionary to Singapore, started a Malay language worship service within the premises. Ms. Blackmore and her team of women missionaries made a deep impression on Baba women and children as they distributed tracts, sang hymms and visited several hundred "native" Straits-born Chinese in their homes. Soon, the congregation outgrew the building and the Methodist church moved to a new location along Kampong Kapur Road.

Today, the place is home to a contemporary art centre in the heart of our city. While 3-D sculptures pepper the lawn, bits of the building's former history are still evident on site.

As with other urban caches, GPS reception may be sketchy. But it is impossible to miss this building, given her mandarin orange-coloured walls and the huge silhouette of a man smoking on her entrance.(They killed the man on the wall!)

For those religiously inclined, the Sri Krishnan Temple and the famed Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple are only a few steps away – a hallmark of Singapore's co-existing cultural diversity.

Lunchtime geocachers: This should make an interesting addition to your list. Albert Street Food Centre is just close by.

Cache is a plastic container, found on a tree at the back of the building.

Happy Geocaching!
