Battle of Sannoudou
Recently, I placed a cache at the Oda Castle Ruins. I mentioned short note on the history of the castle. I was interested in a famous military commander Uesugi Kenshin who lived in Niigata pref. Therefore, I studied his action. I thought he visited Sannoudou to fight against Oda clan. I would like to place a small geocache at here to feel historical science. You do not need to read the following sentences because this is just a traditional cache.

山王堂の戦い
先日、小田城跡にキャッシュを置いた際に、 説明欄に上杉謙信の名を挙げました。 その後、どういう戦だったのか少し調べてみました。 上杉謙信がやってきて戦ったというのは、 小田城跡というよりこちらの山王堂かな、と思いました。 あらためてキャッシュを置いてまいりましたので、 戦国時代に思いを馳せて感慨にふけっていただければと思います。 これはトラディショナルキャッシュですので、以下はまったく読む必要ありません。

In 16th century, Oda and Satake had been conflict around here. Oda attacked Satake when Satake joined Uesugi's army which attacked Kanto area. Satake asked Uesugi to save his territory in 1564. Uesugi and his army rushed to here from Gunma pref. to fight against Oda clan although Satake had not arrived yet.
Oda heard Uesugi's army had reached around here. He decided to leave the Oda castle and fight in the field. The battle field was just here Sannnoudou which was the gentle hills. The army strength of Uesugi and Oda were about 8000 and 3000 respectively. The fierce battle was held from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Because Oda was inferior to the number of combatants, he decided to turn back to the castle finally.

16世紀、この辺りでは小田城(つくば市)の小田氏治と太田城(常陸太田市)の 佐竹義昭が対立していました。 1563年、佐竹義昭が上杉謙信の関東出兵に参戦したところ、 手薄になったすきをつき小田氏治が攻めて小田氏と佐竹氏の対立が激化しました。 1564年、佐竹氏が上杉謙信に出馬を要請したところ、 謙信は上野（群馬県）平井から神速で進軍してきました。 あまりの素早さに他の軍はついていけないほどでした。
小田氏治は上杉謙信が攻めてきたと聞いて、小田城を出て迎え撃つことにしました。 決戦は山王堂、なだらかな丘陵地でした。 戦力は上杉勢8千余騎、小田勢は3千余騎でした。 辰の刻（午前8時）に戦闘が開始、 激戦は申の刻（午後4時）までおよびました。 数に劣る小田勢はついに小田城に引き返しました。

Satake who asked Uesugi for help arrived after the battle of Sannoudou had been finished. He pursued Oda to rout.

出馬を要請した佐竹義昭らは山王堂の戦いが終わった頃にようやく到着し、 敗走する小田勢を追撃しました。

The Oda castle was surrounded by a large army and was fell finally. Oda escaped to Fujisawa castle at night. Uesugi gave Satake the castle and returned to Gunma pref.

小田城は大軍に包囲され、ついに落城、小田氏治は藤沢城へ逃れました。 戦いに勝った上杉謙信は小田城を佐竹義昭に渡し、早々に上野平井へ戻り、 そして越後へ帰国しました。

P.S.
The battle of Sannnoudou was held in 1564. However, It seems there are two theories on the date either January or April. Therefore, I deleted the date in Figs and the description.

追記
山王堂の戦いは1月28日と4月28日の二通りの説があるようです。元にしたのがWikipediaの山王堂の戦いという記事なのですが、同じWikipediaの上杉謙信の記事を読んでみると時系列的に1月のような気がします。判断しかねるので、このキャッシュの図と文中から日付を削除しました。

I secretly placed a small geocache in a shrine of Sannoudou while watching the sunset sky of early spring.

早春の暮れゆく空を眺めながらキャッシュを山王堂の神社にこっそり置きました。
