Geocache Description:

This is a Virtual Cache. Physical caches are prohibited in Radnor Lake State Natural Area. Take the Ganier Ridge Trail. You may access this trail from the east by taking Otter Creek Road off of U.S. 31/Franklin Pike or from the west by taking Otter Creek Road off Granny White Pike. Ganier Ridge Trail is a loop trail and is approximately 2.4 miles. Most hiking books rate this trail as moderately difficult.

In 1914 the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company purchased this land and impounded Otter Creek to create Radnor Lake and used its water for steam engines at nearby Radnor Yards. Soon the area around the lake was discovered my many native and migratory birds and in 1923 the area was declared a wildlife sanctuary at the urging of the Tennessee Ornithological Society and most noteably by one of its most active members, Albert Ganier.

In 1973, the Tennessee Department of Conservation purchased the 1,100 acre Radnor Lake area and declared it the first Tennessee State Natural Area.

To claim this virtual cache as a find, go to the coordinates posted above and find the answers to the following questions:

1. What year was Albert Ganier born and what year did he die?

2. What year was this memorial dedicated?

You must contact me through geocaching.com with your answers. PLEASE, DO NOT GIVE YOUR ANSWERS IN YOUR CACHE PAGE LOG. IF YOU GIVE YOUR ANSWERS IN YOUR CACHE PAGE LOG, YOU WILL BE DELETED!

If you are here when the trees are leafless, don't miss the view of Nashville from the nearby ridge. It's easy to miss, especially on hazy days. Be sure and stay on the trail. Bushwhacking is not allowed. The trail will lead you to the posted coordinates. This is a beautiful trail and I hope you enjoy hiking it to find this virtual cache.
