Geocache Description:

June 2002, at 468,638 acres, the Rodeo-Chediski fire was the largest fire in Arizona's history until 2011, it's one of the worst in U.S. history.  At one point, it burned 10,000 acres in 15 minutes. A wall of fire 6 miles wide raced over the Mogollon Rim at 20 mph, throwing flames 400 feet skyward. 13,500 structures were threatened and 491 were lost, including 465 homes, 6 commercial properties, and 20 outbuildings. Suppression costs were $43.1 million.

The communities of Lakeside, Pinetop, Hon Dah, Clay Springs, Linden, Heber, Overgaard and Show Low were evacuated for extended periods during the fire. Over 30,000 people were evacuated from their homes during the Rodeo-Chediski fire.  Nearby communities such as Payson, Holbrook, and Springerville opened their doors to those evacuated. Others offered to take pets and livestock. It was an incredible experience that was moving and demonstrated the best in others. A large container, the Evac Center has been created for Travel Bugs to rest as they journey throughout the Geocaching world. A quick grab off of highway 260 and Black Canyon Lake turn off. It's my hope folks will visit it often as a corridor between Northern AZ and the Valley of the Sun and other locations throughout the state as they enjoy the great summer weather of the Mogollon Rim.

Congrats to Smudget for FTF!
