Over the top of Blaeberry Hill (North of Rothbury)but not so far away!
Starting from the car park at N55º18.457 W 001º54.708 your search will take you just 0.7 miles onto the hills but you will climb 500 feet in the process!
Cross the river via the footbridge and follow the path into the village center. Look for the path between the Co-op and Millers, at the top of this path go left then right follow the footpath sign to Hillside road, passing Greenacre.
At the top of the steps get your breath before you continue across the road up Baeberry Hill following the footpath sign to Cartington. The path leaves the road at lamppost 190R and goes between the gardens to a style.
Over the style you have the choice of three paths, left (for the fit) will take you straight up the hill (great view of Rothbury), middle is easier over the saddle and right is easier still, round the hill. Whichever way you take you will end up on the Carriage Drive. This drive was created by Lord Armstrong to show off his estates to his guests. You now go left or right along the drive depending on which route you took.
This cash is located close to a cairn in memory of our dog “Lucky”. He was also a mascot for 2nd Rothbury Scouts. To visit his cairn go 230 feet from the cache on a bearing of 350 º, he’s at the foot of a tree. What is a Scout? Please don’t take anything from the cairn but add a stone if you like.
