Geocache Description:

Moderately easy cache in a new park in Newberg.

This Cache is placed to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Rotary Clubs, in a park dedicated to the same purpose. I hope that you will spend the time to learn a bit about Rotary International and it's ideals, but if you don't have the time right now and need to skip the history lesson on Rotary, skip down to "The Cache"

ROTARY HISTORY

The Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois, USA, was formed on 23 February 1905 by Paul Harris, an attorney, in an attempt to recapture in a professional club, the same friendly spirit he had felt in the small towns of his youth. The name "Rotary" comes from the early practice of rotating meetings among members' offices. In the decade that followed, Rotary's popularity spread, both across the U.S. and to 5 other continents, with the name "Rotary International" being adopted in 1922. As the club grew it expanded it's mission from serving the professional and social interests of it's members to serving it's communities. In the early 1940's Rotarians became increasingly involved in promoting international understanding. 49 Rotary members served on 29 of the delegations to the United Nations Charter Conference. The Club has continued its participation and promotion of the U.N., and to this day maintains a relationship with the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO.) The Rotary Foundation, set up in 1928 continues to support a wide range of international humanitarian grants, educational programs, and Ambassadorial Scholarships, with contributions totalling more than $80 million annually. Today, 1.2 million members strong, Rotarians belong to some 31,000 Rotary Clubs in 166 countries. The principal Rotarian motto is "Service Above Self," with service along four avenues.   1. Service to your Community.   2. Service to your Club.   3. Service to your Vocation   4. International Service.   Rotarians around the world conduct themselves by a code of ethics called "The Four Way Test."
  • Is it the TRUTH?
  • Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  • Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  • Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Many thanks to and more information available at the Rotary Website. [www.rotary.org/aboutrotary/index.html]

ROTARY CENTENNIAL PARK

Conceived as a gift to the community from the two Rotary Clubs of Newberg, to commemorate the Centennial Celebration of Rotary, this park represents a combination of efforts between the Noon Rotary Club of Newberg, the Rotary Club of Newberg Earlybirds, and the Chehalem Park and Recreation District. Donations from each club, funds from the Park and Rec District, and monetary and in-kind gifts from many Rotarians and other business and community leaders have all been used to develop this as a "Signature" park for the Community, and to amplify the use of the Chehalem Cultural Community Center currently being remodeled from the old Central School.

THE CACHE

I have turned this into a two-stage multicache, due to the original spot being muggled too often. This spot now contains the coordinates to a second hiding place. Ultimately, you are looking for an Ammo Box hidden on the same property just around a corner. The clue is in a spot built into the Park during the construction. Be careful and use stealth in both spots, as there is sure to be a large number of people using the park, although they should be well distracted by the Space Net, Climbing Rocks, and multiple play structures. Be sure to replace the cache properly and with the same stealth.
