Geocache Description:

Ben Overturff's Deer Park Cabin Ruins

Cache is a regular-sized (7.75" X 3.75" X 2.5 ") Pelican Lexan container (see image below) and is hidden in the ruins of the Ben Overturff hunting lodge that can be found at the end of the Ben Overturff (BO) Trail.

This trail begins in Monrovia Canyon Park (MCP) located in the foothills above Monrovia, CA (See Related Web Page above). From the BO trailhead at the Boy Scout bridge, it takes about 3 hrs to get to the cabin ruins (approx 2.8 +/- miles). Park in either the lower or middle MCP parking lots ($5/car fee) and walk to the Trask "Bear" sign next to small metal bridge. This is the trailhead.

Note: MCP closes its entrance gate to cars at 5PM so if you park inside, make sure you get started before 12 Noon. Otherwise, park outside and walk in. The MCP gate has a side entrance for hikers that remains open.

Note 2: In the Summer and early Fall months, the flies and gnats are REALLY bad at the ruins site. So, plan accordingly if you go looking for this Geocache during that time of the year. Either start hiking real early or bring a hat-mosquito net.
