Geocache Description:

This is one of ten caches placed for the 2015 Cache Across Maryland. Each location was picked specifically to give cachers a taste of the state and show you its beauty. By combining all ten, you'll be able to see why Maryland is truly "America in Miniature". We hope you enjoy them!

Kilgore Falls is located in the Falling Branch area of Rocks State Park. It is the second highest vertical waterfall in Maryland and was featured in the Disney movie Tuck Everlasting.

The cache is a four-stage multi. At each of the first three stages you will gather information which will enable you to calculate the coordinates for the final stage where the cache container is located. The published coordinates are given for Stage 1. (Additional waypoints are included for Parking and Stages 2 & 3.)

*** Please keep a close eye on children at Stage 1, and be very careful of ice in the colder months. ***

Stage 1 (N39° 41.572' W076° 25.617')
Following the main trail to the published coordinates, you will be led to a lookout point at the top of the Falls. (When you are about 430 feet away, the trail will fork; take the righthand path leading upwards.) Look westward across the water below and find the wooden bridge. Count the number of vertical posts supporting the railing closest to you. (Do not count both railings, just the one.) Let this number be ‘X’.

Stage 2 (N39° 41.458' W076° 25.557')
Returning along the same trail, you will find a small wooden bench at Waypoint 2. Count the number of lag screws (hexagonal-headed bolts) visible in the TOP SURFACE of the bench. Let this number be ‘Y’.

Stage 3 (N39° 41.416' W076° 25.477')
Continuing back along the trail, you will find a larger wooden bridge at Waypoint 3. Count the vertical posts supporting ONE of the railings. (Again, do not count both railings, just one.) Let this number be ‘Z’.

Final
The cache container is located at the final coordinates:
N 39 41.AAB W 076 25.CCC

AA = X x Z x 2
B = Y x 2
CCC = (Z x 100) + (Y x Z) + 1

Checksum: X + Y + Z = 13

Congratulations to MDSurveyor for FTF!
