Sandhill Crane: Have you ever been hiking at Crosswinds and heard an almost prehistoric call? That was most likely the Sandhill Crane! It’s call can be heard through the summer and fall at Crosswinds! Living in groups, these birds are hard to miss. They have a sandy colored body and a deep red crown and a wingspan that can reach past 5 feet. While flying it is often confused with the Great Blue Heron as they are similar in size, but there is one key difference! The Sandhill Crane flies with its neck straight out, creating a long line from head to tail feathers!
