Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series intended to showcase Wisconsin’s Rustic Roads (W.R.R.). Wisconsin Legislature established the Rustic Roads program in 1973 to preserve what remains of Wisconsin's scenic, lightly traveled roads.

These caches are usually hidden in the right of way at a spot of notable beauty with no bushwhacking required. Chances for muggles along the road are limited but there are private residences on this stretch, so please be respectful of private property, protected lands, and the overall history of the area. Take your time, mind your speed, and most of all… enjoy your journey along the road less traveled.

This particular cache is hidden along Rustic Road 48, a paved road also known as 26th Road. This road curves between rolling hills typical of the ground moraines found in Wisconsin’s central plains region. It passes through the valley of the Pine River, a Class II trout stream in a natural state. Much of the agricultural land and fallow fields support ring-necked pheasants, sandhill cranes, deer, red fox, beaver, otter and a wide variety of song birds. A log cabin and two farmhouses, built before the Civil War on 160-acre Homestead Act grants, are visible from 26th Road. Total length is 2.1 miles.

There is a small area where you should be able to safely pull over near Ground Zero. You may also choose to spend a little time along the banks of the river in this area.

Please take care with retrieving and replacing the cache to save the experience for the next cacher. Happy hunting!
