Perfect Tommy: The warning signs were all there. A straightforward multi that hadn't been found since April. But no DNF logs until recently. Chugged down the track through the flurries and canvassed Ground Zero but no cache. Caches do sometimes migrate from their original hiding spot so, after the snows melt, I'll come back to pick up the geo-remains, if any. In the meantime, this one goes in the dustbin, opening the area up for others. Thanks to all that visited.

Geocache Description:

This cache has nothing to do with John Shaft. This two-stage multi does has something to do with Mother Nature and her tornado that touched down in Westchester County on July 13, 2006.

On July 13, an F-2 tornado, with winds ranging from 100-125 mph, started up in Rockland County, crossed the Hudson River (creating a waterspout) and then touched down in this area of Sleepy Hollow and Mt. Pleasant wreaking destruction. This cache hunt brings you along the North County Trailway following the path of the tornado as it churned its way through the Rockefeller property, across the Saw Mill River Parkway to Route 100 where it caused the partial collapse of the California Closet store, hurled a truck into a bank of gasoline pumps and lifted, spun and dropped a police cruiser at the Wendy's restaurant. You can read the USA Today account here. With the leaves now down, you get a better perspective of the damage done. Remarkably, no one was injured.

Park at N 41 04.939 W 073 49.833 and follow the rail trail to the first, virtual stage. At the header coordinates, you will find a sign post with two numbers on either side. Add them together and then add that total to each of the following numbers to get the coordinates for the final stage: N 4105366 W 7349264. The final stage is a camouflaged Lock 'N Lock container hidden off of the North County Trailway.

Please rehide the cache as you found it, if not better. When hunting the final stage, use common sense! Although Future Perfect Tommy and I were able to reach the final cache site without any trouble, the direct approach is not recommended for younger (<7 or so) children (or pregnant women)!
