 El Teatro romano de Mérida es un teatro histórico levantado por la Antigua Roma en la colonia Augusta Emerita, promovido por el cónsul Marco Vipsanio Agripa e inaugurado hacia los años 16-15 a. C. Es Patrimonio de la Humanidad desde 1993 como parte del Conjunto arqueológico de Mérida. El teatro ha sufrido varias remodelaciones, la más importante hacia el año 105, en época del emperador Trajano, cuando se levantó el frente escénico actual, y otra en época de Constantino I, entre los años 333 y 335. El teatro fue abandonado en el siglo IV d. C. tras la oficialización en el Imperio romano de la religión cristiana, que consideraba inmorales las representaciones teatrales. El edificio fue cubierto de tierra y durante siglos su única parte visible fue la summa cavea, las gradas superiores, que fueron bautizadas por los emeritenses «Las Siete Sillas». Las excavaciones arqueológicas en el edificio comenzaron a principios del siglo XX y desde 1933 el teatro alberga la celebración del Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico de Mérida. En 2007 el teatro fue nombrado uno de los 12 Tesoros de España.

 The Roman Theatre of Mérida is a construction promoted by the consul Vipsanius Agrippa in the Roman city of Emerita Augusta. It was constructed in the years 16 to 15 BCE. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993. The theater has undergone several renovations, notably at the end of the 1st century or early 2nd century CE (possibly during the reign of Emperor Trajan), when the current facade of the scaenae frons was erected, and another in the time of Constantine I (between 330 and 340) which introduced new decorative-architectural elements and a walkway around the monument. Following the theatre's abandonment in Late Antiquity, it was slowly covered with earth, with only the upper tiers of seats (summa cavea) remaining visible. In local folklore the site was referred to as "The Seven Chairs". Archaeological excavations in the building began at the beginning of the 20th century and since 1933 the theater houses the celebration of the International Classical Theater Festival of Mérida. In 2007 the theater was named one of the 12 Treasures of Spain.

Mármol
El mármol es una roca metamórica compacta formada a partir de rocas calizas. El componente básico del mármol es el carbonato cálcico, cuyo contenido supera el 90 %; los demás componentes, considerados impurezas, son los que dan gran variedad de colores en los mármoles y definen sus características físicas, de una forma rápida podremos considerar que cuanto más blanco sea el mármol, mas puro es.
Los característicos remolinos y venas de los mármoles coloreados son debidos normalmente a las diferente impurezas minerales, como la arcilla, limo, arena, óxido de hierro o rocas silíceas que están originalmente presentes como granos o capas en la caliza.
Estas impurezas son movilizadas y recristalizadas por el calor y las elevadas presiones del metamorfismo.

Marble
Marble is a compact metamorphic rock formed from limestone rocks. The basic component of the marble is calcium carbonate, whose content exceeds 90%; The other components, considered impurities, are those that give great variety of colors in the marbles and define their physical characteristics, in a quick way we can consider that the whiter the marble, the purer it is.
The characteristic swirls and veins of colored marbles are normally due to different mineral impurities, such as clay, silt, sand, iron oxide or siliceous rocks that are originally present as grains or layers in the limestone.
These impurities are mobilized and recrystallized by the heat and high pressures of metamorphism.

En las columnas del “scaena” podemos observar cómo los romanos utilizaron la belleza y la robustez del mármol, y se apoyan sobre un zócalo de argamasa recubierto de granito. El mármol de las columnas viene de Almeria (Macael), es el mismo mármol que fue usado para construir el Patio de los Leones de la Alhambra de Granada y la fuente de los leones de la Plaza Jado de Bilbao. Desde el 2700 a.C el mármol de esa cantera ha sido muy usado y es una de las más importantes en España.

In the columns of the "scaena" we can see how the Romans used the beauty and the hardiness of marble, and lean on a base of mortar covered with granite. The marble of the columns come from Almeria (Macael) is the same marble that was used to build Patio de los Leones of the Alhambra of Granada and the fountain of the lions in Jado Square in Bilbao. Since 2700 BC people have used the marble from this quarry and it´s one of the most important quarry in Spain.
