Here in the beautiful Balgownie Wood you will see a range of animals, both native and exotic, roaming free in purpose built environments. Lions, Giraffes and Polar Bears are just a few of the animals we have for you to enjoy.
Like Edinburgh Zoo, we are also proud owners of two of Chinas Giant Pandas, GeoTing and GeoGuang.
The trail will lead you round the woods where all the animals are fairly close to the path so this series can be enjoyed by most ages and abilities.
Giant Panda : The Giant Panda is a bear native to south central China, easily recognised by the large, distinctive black patches around it's eyes, over it's ears and across it's round body. Bamboo makes up to 99% of the Pandas diet.
Don't worry if you can only see one of our Pandas on your visit as they can be very shy and are possibly hiding out of sight.
Parking is available at N 56 4.793 W 3 38.220 just as you turn off the main road opposite the cottage, or drive a little further up the track to N 56 4.773 W 3 38.061 where there is room for maybe 1 or 2 cars but please avoid blocking the gates.
Please replace all caches as found and re-hide well to ensure they stay safe and can be enjoyed by everyone.
The caches on this trail range in size from micro to regular and where space has allowed, I have added some small plastic swaps for the kids.
Hazards : Common sense applies but please refrane from climbing on log piles and keep children safe and away from the streams / burns that run through the woods.
Cache placed with the kind permission of the Forestry Commission Scotland.
Please enjoy your visit to Balgownie Zoo.
