You don't need to be an Immortal to enjoy a visit to this new trail being prepared by the Middlesex County Conservation Corp, with a little help from a Gathering of us geocachers. Wielding shovels and rakes and implements of destruction, including the eponymous McLeods*, this crack team of trail blazers fought a valiant battle against greenbriar, poison ivy, fallen logs, and other assorted detritus to bring you the trail that will lead you within about 50 feet of this cache. As of this writing the trail is not yet finalized (estimated completion summer 2016), with about 100 feet simple bushwhack northwest from the trailhead to reach its current blazed start; from there the trail will take you to all but that last 50 or so feet. Come visit and enjoy exploring this new-to-caching area!
UPDATE 6/24/17: The trail is finished with a sign at the trailhead! It loops around the "wrong way" from the cache for a while, but stick with it - it'll get you to where you need to be. There's more undergrowth to reach GZ than when we blazed the trail, but it's still only about 50-70 feet off trail. Enjoy!
*What's a McLeod, you ask? Not a Scottish Highlander in this case; rather, it's a heavy-duty two-sided tool with rake tines on one side and a hoe blade on the other. Ideal for both clearing out leaves and topsoil, while also offering a sharp edge for hacking away stubborn bike-tire-puncturing roots or entangling greenbriar. Wield one while trailblazing, and you'll be wishing you had one with you all the time** when wrestling nature's hazards!
**Well, maybe not all the time. They're a bit long and heavy, and you sure wouldn't want to trip and fall on one. A good motto for geocaching: don't lose your head!
