"Pop" Huttons Store Traditional Geocache

     Pop Hutton's was a concession stand at the most popular swimming hole along Beaver Creek during the late 1940s. This spot , now part of the " BEAVER CREEK CONSERVATION AREA " is supervised by the Mewassin Valley Authority . The park is open most days from 9 to 5 however hours vary so its best to check online. This cache is near the parking lot , a 140 m hike southwest will get you to the top of the creek gorge . Cross country is the short route or a gravel trail is also a choice with about double the distance . A trail will take you down timber stairs to the lower trail for 87m to the game trail down to the cache another 30 m or so . Cache is a 5x5 L & L in a clump of red Birch . Contains , log book , pencil and a few trinkets. FTF prize  and a unique traveler . I found an item at Woodpecker #8 that I suspected might have been dropped by Benny .I have placed it in this cache so he can retrieve it if its his and if not it can be moved from cache to cache until someone claims it .

The first 50 years were its heyday with the last 50 seeing a "return to nature".  As a boy growing up in the sandhills near the creek the high point of the summer was the July first picnic at the creek . A visit to Pop Huttons for treats was essential ,At its peak The United Grain Growers Picnic drew crowds of 2000 people . It was a family event with special attention to involvement of children . Competition was very casual and it seemed everyone went home with a toy . . Hike is not difficult for adults in good heath or older children but may be too much for those with health issues or the very young .
